Yesterday, the last day of the first half of 2022, I replaced my Macbook Pro for the first time in seven years.

How was your first half of the year?

The second half of 2022 begins today.

Today, July 2nd, is said to be exactly the halfway point of the year.

Until now, I had been using the early 2015 model of the Macbook Pro 13. It's a seven-year-old model.

And today, the first day of the second half of the year, I set it up.

For modern photographers, PCs and Photoshop are just as important equipment as cameras.

Eventually, an alert appeared and the solution was as follows.

If you take it to a regular repair shop, it will cost 23,800 yen.

One screw on the bottom has come loose, leaving a small gap.

It came out naturally without even looking inside the Mac.

One of the rubber feet also came off.

This also peeled off naturally, so I fixed it with strong double-sided tape, but it peeled off again.

The Thunderbolt also behaves strangely, although very occasionally.

The rubber feet and screws don't seem to be a big deal if they are repaired, but the HDMI and Thunderbolt problems, if they are in the circuit board, will be a higher level of repair and will likely cost quite a bit of money.

That was. My luck ran out when I went to Yodobashi Camera's Shinjuku West Exit to see the actual machine on June 29th.

Usually, I customize my Mac in some way, and then customize it and buy it from Apple's Net, but the latest Macbook Pro 13 and 14 are standard models lined up in stores such as Yodobashi Camera, so I thought I would buy them at the store.

I was wondering whether to get the 13 or the 14...

The 13 and 14 & 16 are different product lines in the first place.

The LCD screen resolution and CPU performance are also different.

On the left is the new 14, and on the right is the 13 I've been using until now.

The body size is almost the same, but you can see the difference in screen size and resolution.

The biggest problem with carrying it around every day is the size and weight.

The new MacBook Pro 13 is: Height: 1.56 cm Width: 30.41 cm Depth: 21.24 cm Weight: 1.4 kg The MacBook Pro 14 is: Height: 1.55 cm Width: 31.26 cm Depth: 22.12 cm Weight: 1.6 kg The width and depth are less than 1 cm different, but the weight difference is 200 g, the same as a steak. If you carry it around every day, it will feel bigger as you get older.

The 14 and 16 have three USB-C ports, an HDMI socket, and an SDXC card slot.

It charges with Magsafe3.

The 13, on the other hand, has only two USB-C ports, and charging is done from one of them.

At MASH, we also have several Pro13s and one AirMac with two USB-C type ports, but neither the 13 nor the AirMac are practical without an external hub.

And lastly, there's the price.

The MacBook Pro14 is 274,800 yen with 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage. It was increased by 35,000 yen on June 7th.

The MacBook Pro13 is 206,800 yen with 8GB of memory and 512GB of storage. The old model was increased by 30,000 yen on June 7th, and the new model has retained that price.

Depending on the number and type of ports, the size and resolution of the LCD screen, it is a matter of how you view the difference of 68,000 yen or 40,000 yen if you choose 16GB of memory.

Since July 1st, the iPhone and iPad have increased in price by up to 25% due to the weak yen.

Mac PCs may also go up in price in the future...

The question is, will there be any at this time?

In the end, I decided on the 14, taking into account the display performance and the number and type of ports, but the space gray is not yet in stock. The silver is in the logistics center, so it will arrive at the store as soon as tomorrow...

And the final blow to my decision to buy it was that the new 0S Ventura, which will be released later this year, is not included in the 2015 model I am currently using, so I cannot use it.

For Macs, you don't need to use the latest OS in relation to other software, but I always use the latest OS on my Mac as an experimental machine... I made various excuses and made a replacement.

A few months ago, the battery life started to decrease. If I were to add 16GB of memory to the 13, the same as the 14, it would be 28,000 yen more, at 234,800 yen.
