How to Replace an Audi Tt Key Programming G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located near the transmission's edge, above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 through a grey wire. The ECU uses this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to link with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can activate spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate an issue with the chain or a jumpy chain link in the upper chain of timing. However, the code won't appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit challenging since there are two connector pins, and they serve different purposes but the best way to test it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. If the sensor is functional, it should read around 1000 ohms. If you're having issues with this component, look for key Audi evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at a high speed, i noticed a huge reduction in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were drenched in gasoline and the fourth was unclean. When I crank the engine with no sparks i put tissue on the top of each hole in the injector, the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th stay closed. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ I got 0ohm. I'm assuming the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset PID without success. The car can start when the G28 is unplugged and runs fine when it is connected, but still has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temp value that is -49c even after unplugging it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars when the actual pressure is 0.

I don't know what to do. I think I've ruled everything else out. But i'm worried that I may have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate the spare in a salvage shop or parts store. It is simple to test them - simply put your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing upwards). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines requires to be aware of the position and speed of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of fuel injectors, etc. It utilizes a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If either of these go bad you will get codes on the diagnostic scanner which can cause the engine to shut down.

Some of the symptoms of a malfunctioning G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox, gears shifting quicker than normal and/or a misfire when you are in gear. If you experience any of these issues it is likely that your sensor is deteriorating and requires replacement key for audi a4. They're cheap and easy to find especially when they're an Bosch unit like ours. You can also choose the GM version of this component is also a good choice.

5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be a cause for many issues in your vehicle. It is a crucial part of the audi a3 key fob replacement's transmission as it sends information to the ECU about how the car's crankshaft is turning. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other components of the car to be affected.
